ESSE - Cooking Stove


Is it a stove or a cooker?
Essentially the cooking stove makes the most of the two things ESSE does best. An inspired combination of a superb log burning stove and traditional cast iron range cooker. And therein lies its charm and appeal... it is equally at home as a stove or as a range cooker.

A firebox like no other stove
The firebox has been specifically designed to burn 500mm logs, length ways, which it does in spectacular fashion, providing a splendid view of the flames through a large rectangular glass fire door. As the heat source for the oven and hotplates it has to be highly controllable, which it is, thanks to simple but effective primary and secondary air flow controls, the secondary control providing an airwash which keeps the door glass clear. The large capacity of the firebox and the highly controllable burn mean it will run for long periods between refuelling, so your hands remain clean whilst cooking and it will have no trouble remaining alight overnight so you can wake up to the unique radiated warmth of range cooker.

Designed to keep your kitchen clean
Because of the cleanliness required for cooking we have carefully considered the issue of mess created by solid fuel cooker, indeed that is one reason why we have designed the cooking stove to burn logs, which require minimal riddling and infrequent ash removal. The full depth ashpan sits safely behind a sturdy hinged door and is easily removed using a specially designed lifting tool. There is also a handy cavity beneath the stove that is heat shielded from the firebox and protected from falling ash. It is ideal for storing and drying logs, so trips to the log pile are kept to a minimum.

    The trademark dog-bone hotplates offer a large hob area with designated heat zones for easy 'pan slide' operation.

    This conveniently located slide operation control keeps the door glass clear.
  4. Oven temperature control
    A simple push/pull action lever enables a surprising degree of oven temperature control making cooking a pleasure.
  5. High capacity glass fronted firebox
    Designed to burn extra large 500mm logs, the firebox provides a spectacular view of the flames.
  6. Single large oven
    Offering authentic ESSE range cooking this large oven has vented extraction so cooking odours disappear up the flue.
  7. 150th Anniversary door casting
    The cooking stove is available with optional commemorative door castings, to mark our 150th anniversary year.
  8. Easy and convenient ash removal
    The generous ashpan can be easily accessed via the protective door and removed using a special tool.
  9. Easy access to flue ways
    Occasional cleaning of the flue ways is easy, thanks to a removable access panel hidden behind a hinged door below the oven.
