Looking for a heating solution? With the diverse range of stoves, inserts and ranges available, the
initial choice of stove for your house is a very important decision. Kilowatts, boilers, radiators,
make, model, fuel type/consumption, price etc. are all factors that need to be taken into
consideration.
Before making an Online Enquiry, Contacting Us, or Visiting our Showroom, please ensure you have the minimum amount of
information regarding your home.
- What is the size of the room into which the stove will be installed (sq. m.)?
- What is the total number of radiators in your home (a double radiator = 2 radiators)?
- For inset stoves, please measure the height, width and depth of your fireplace.
- Digital images are very helpful, be they of your fireplace, chimney or house plan. You may submit these to us using on online
enquiry form, email to us or simply bring these with you if visiting our showroom in Kinvara.
Other Factors to Consider when Buying a Stove
Boiler Stove / Non-Boiler Stove
A boiler stove can be a total heating solution for your home, heating immediate area, radiators and hot water. Non-boiler stoves can use
convection and radiation to heat the room where the stove is located and other rooms by circulating air.
Number of Rooms
Open plan areas, or rooms linked by double doors can significantly increase the area to be heated and this needs to be taken into account
when choosing a suitable stove. The total floor area of your house is a better indicator for stove requirements, rather than number of
rooms!
Radiators
Obviously the greater number of radiators that require heating, the greater capacity stove you will require.
House Construction / Insulation
Older houses, or those with more stone and/or concrete will generally have a greater heating requirement. Consider your home insulation, as
this too will have a major impact on the stove rating you require.
Size of Room where Stove will be Located
Your new stove will radiate a huge amount of heat into the room. You do not want to place a large stove into too small a room (you'll be too HOT!)
Home Features
Each individual home features will affect how your stove performs and how heat radiates throughout your home. High ceilings, open stairwells,
skylights and furniture will all have an effect.
Fuel Type
Solid / multi-fuel stoves can burn a wide range of fuel, including wood, turf / peat, briquettes, coal and more. However, not all
stoves are designed to burn all fuels. At Murphy Heating we will advise you on stove types best suited for your preferred fuel.
Flue Outlet
All stoves will a have a flue (exit pipe for smoke), and this can be at the top or back / rear of your stove. You will need to consider
where the flue outlet will need to be situated, and that there is enough space.
Flue Length & Diameter
This another very important area that will need to be addressed. We supply many different type of flue pipe and widths, flexi flue,
and angled bends. Again, we will advise you as to the best setup for your unique situation. All stoves will require a flue of some
description, and in many cases your home's existing flue will be sufficient.
Hearth
In some instances there may be no existing hearth or existing hearth is too small. At Murphy Heating we can supply you with a wide range of
hearths best suited to your requirements.
